Marching SeasonThe Marching Band is comprised of all band students and performs at all home and away varsity football games as well as several marching band contests throughout the fall. The marching band begins rehearsing regularly in late July/early August so that they are prepared for the first football game at the end of August. Once school starts, the band rehearses after school and takes one day off per week so students can catch up on tutoring, make-up tests, appointments, and other activities. While marching band does take up a large amount of time, students enjoy the comraderie and learn valuable time management skills.
Football players (freshmen and JV), volleyball players, and students with special medical exceptions are excused from the daily marching band rehearsals, but are still issued a uniform and travel to events with the marching band. During football games, they play in the stands and for the drill team. At marching contests, these students help with pit equipment or props. Cheerleaders, drill team members, and varsity football players who are also in band are excused from marching band entirely, but still participate in some of summer band and play in class every day. Other Klein Oak sports and activities such as cross country, swimming, tennis, and ROTC are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. We have always been able to work with other campus organizations to resolve time conflicts. |
